We have a vast collection of art created by my mother and my grandmother. This blog will provide a way to share it with the world and find others who have images that they would like to contribute.

Portraits
Janice considered oil portraits her forte, but her ability to capture the essence of a person is also shown in her quick studies in watercolor and pencil. Throught her career, she painted from life in groups with other artists. They would hire models, ask friends to pose, or paint each other.
I was born into a family of artists starting with my grandmother, Mary Wands Campbell followed by my mother, Janice Campbell Candela Tate. All my siblings and I have followed her footsteps to some degree, but I think we would all agree that my mother was the master. She painted actively her whole life, but never felt that she has achieved success, though she did have a great deal of satisfaction. A Google search on her name brings up nothing. With this blog, I hope to remedy that situation.
I follwed my artistic leanings into the world of fashion, majoring in Fashion Design at Pratt Institute, and have worked in the field ever since. When I would tell my mother of my children's artistic accomplishments, she would say, only half joking, "Oh, no! Cursed with the Art Gene!". Looking at her artwork, it is hard to imagine any way that the Art Gene could be a curse!
